Fax Toner
Fax machines that run on fax toner are an excellent addition to any office, mostly because they are more economical than inkjet fax machines. Fax toner, which is similar to copier and printer toner, is less expensive in the long run than ink cartridges. Your office may spend more on the fax machine initially, but then pay less for refilling the fax toner cartridges later on.
Fax toner is very similar to copier and printer toner by what it is made up of. It has the three basic components, and these chemicals do the same job as they would in other machines. Toner is basically dry ink, more specifically, particles of chemicals that bond with the paper during heating to leave marks on the page. The parts of fax toner are:
Iron - This metal is what attracts the electromagnetic effect of a fax machine and bonds to the paper.
Carbon - This is what outlines any text or graphics on the paper.
Polymers/plastic - The polymer or plastic component is what heats up and bonds the carbon and iron to the paper permanently. This is also what has the black pigment in it.
There are four kinds of fax toner cartridges you can purchase, all of which are available in most stores, or online. The four types of fax toner are:
OEM - This stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. This means the most expensive type of fax toner cartridge, those produced by the maker of the fax machine for that particular brand and style of fax machine.
Compatible Cartridges - These fax toner cartridges are made by third-party producers, and are seen as generic cartridges. These are much cheaper than OEM cartridges, but may not produce the best print quality.
Refurbished Cartridges - These are OEM fax toner cartridges that have been recycled (returned, cleaned, and refilled) and then sold at a discounted price.
Refillable Cartridges - Just about any cartridge can be refilled. There are supply stores that offer this service to people who want to save money by refilling a cartridge, and there are also home kits so you can refill it yourself. This is the most economical answer.
If you purchase a fax machine, you'll obviously need to buy fax toner at some point. Just remember that there are several options, and you should choose the one that works best for you and for your fax machine.
