Copier Toner
Copier toner is what eventually puts text and graphics on the paper that comes out as perfect duplicate in a photocopier. Sometimes called dry ink, toner isn't ink at all, but made up of chemicals that react to the electromagnetic fields caused in normal photocopying and is bound to the paper with the fuser, which heats the copier toner and melts it to the paper it's on. Copier toner is usually made up of three parts:
Carbon - Carbon is what outlines the text or graphics on the copy.
Polymer - Some kind of polymer, usually plastic, is what is heated and sticks to the paper in copier toner.
Iron - This is the metal needed to react to the electrons in the photocopying process.
Most copier toner comes in black, as color toner is expensive. Black pigments can be easily blended into the polymer or plastic parts of the toner before it is packaged for commercial use, and the smaller the granules of toner that are created, the better the copy will be.
Copier toner should be kept in a safe, cool place, as it reacts to heat. It can also be harmful to people with respiratory problems if released into the air. Copier toner tends to stay in the air for a while, like dust, and can make breathing hard or uncomfortable for people with bronchitis or asthma.
