Cartridges
Cartridges for inkjet printers are consumable and replaceable part of a printer that hold the ink. But this is not the only job for cartridges. The ink inside cartridges also acts as a coolant for metal parts within the printer, and keeps the print head from being damaged. Inkjet cartridges can either hold black ink, or primary colored ink including red, yellow, and blue ink. Sometimes red is called magenta and blue cyan, but they are still considered primary within the cartridge. Ink cartridges can also have the individual ink colors in individual cartridges, depending on the printer.
There are variants in the types of cartridges out there. Aside from the ink cartridges being different from each other based on which manufacturer makes them, there is also the fact that some are made for different purposes.
Some cartridges have electrical components inside them to work with the specific printer.
Some cartridges have crystals inside them that help disperse the ink instead of the electrical components.
There are cartridges that are made with ink specifically for printing photograph quality graphics
Third party manufacturers produce what are called "compatible" cartridges, which can substitute for certain name brand ones in printers
Some cartridges incorporate the printer's head, which makes the initial printer more inexpensive, but the cartridges more expensive.
Most name brand cartridge manufacturers will suggest to consumers to only use cartridges
made by the manufacturer of the printer. This is to avoid damage to the printer by using "off brand" cartridges, which may not have the correct components even though they are supposed to be compatible with certain printers.
